Distances in Nepal are short on the map and long on the road. Plan with hours, not kilometres.

Domestic flights

Flights link Kathmandu with Pokhara, Bharatpur (Chitwan), Bhairahawa (Lumbini), Lukla and Jomsom among others. Mountain airstrips are weather-dependent and delays of a day or more are common; many Lukla flights now depart from Ramechhap in peak season, a four-hour drive from Kathmandu.

Tourist buses

Comfortable coaches run each morning between Kathmandu, Pokhara and Chitwan. Expect 6–9 hours for Kathmandu–Pokhara depending on roadworks.

Private vehicles and jeeps

A car with driver is the most flexible option and affordable when shared. For trailheads such as Syabrubesi or Dharapani, shared or private jeeps are the norm.

In the cities

Ride-hailing apps work well in Kathmandu and Pokhara for taxis and motorbike taxis. Agree fares in advance with street taxis.
